about

Inspired by life. Also inspired by a live stream I ran across by the rapper Yukmouth in the summer of 2020 aka Floyd Summer which occurred in the intial year of the COVID-19 jumpoff. In the livestream Yukmouth said, and this is verbatim, "Rodney King was the demo tape!" To me that was profound. I thought to myself, "DAMN!" As it was a hell of a statement.
If you were alive then, I being only in the 2nd grade then, still understood at least from the TV broadcasts, that people were mad during the L.A. Riots that were spurred by the beating of Rodney King.

So, the hook came 1st (Rodney King was the demo tape, you a'int ready for the album) and then the beat came. Though it was all organically. I was making a beat that just had me humming the hook that came to be. I threw different sounds into the beat. You have synth keys from a Black Milk sound pack that I'd purchased. You have some stock Logic Pro sounds (the cheering in the background). You even have some techno sounds that I had from another sound pack I'd purchased as well.

My choice to sing the hook was by default a necessary one as when I recorded this track it was in the summer of 2020 & COVID-19 was new so, I wasn't having anyone roll up to sing a hook; so i mad it do what it do!

The lyrics to the verse are rather standard everyday thoughts if you're a Black person of the diaspora living in the U.S. At least to me.

lyrics

Abolish it or defund it fuck a billion dollar budget 'cause when the race soldiers pull you over you can feel it in ya stomach/tell how you run it & keep it 100, all this protesting in the streets really done nothing/
YADA-YADA, go listen to the song, I'm tired of typing.
